Hi all I have just bought a garlic bulb at a local garden centre and was surprised to find that the pack only contained one bulb. Taylor’s hard neck Lautrec Wight for £2.99. Unless I’m wrong in the past I have bought 2 bulbs for a similar price. ( I know this as I have previously run out of space planting in a raised bed ) I’m not normally too precious about the specific garlic I have planted but I think it is normally Taylor’s of some variety. Have I missed something in terms of how exclusive this garlic is meant to be or has the price just increased massively??

The prices have increased massively looking around.
Our allotment trading hut was looking at doing an order for members who specifically requested garlic through a local garden centre which specialises in leeks, onion and garlic sets. The garden centre has been let down by two of its regular suppliers who can't get garlic bulbs at all and has decided not to bother this year.
The prices at the Garlic Farm are up by a huge amount.

Thanks Christine
I was starting to wonder if I had imagined there being two bulbs in previous packs.
Also visiting another couple of garden centres last week I was told I was too early but perhaps some have just stopped stocking garlic due to price increases ??

Try the range 6 bulbs for a fiver that’s 3 x2 bulb packs you could also mix and match with overwintering onions hard and soft neck garlic as well

Our GC has trouble getting garlic as well - we were after Thermidrome, and they asked for that specific variety especially for us - bless them!
Still not here yet though!

Just paid £2.99 for Thermidrome, with two bulbs each pack - we reckon each pack about 16-20 corms per clove...(or is it cloves per corm)?
Anyway, I bought three packs as garlic is 60p a clove (or a corm) in Tesco, and probs more in Waitrose, where they probably call them someting posher...
;0)

I once bought some from suttons arrived rotten told them they sent more rotten 2 more times in the end I gave up

Waitrose has some terrific British grown softnecks in at the moment at £1.10 a bulb., also various other types like the smaller standard morado red hardneck and another couple.
I also got a few types from tamar organics primor being one, an early hardneck. Not cheap though, but assuming one type does well, the ease in which you can replant garlic lessens the cost somewhat
