BFB on onions
« on: July 09, 2012, 17:27 »
I want to give my onions a BFB feed to help them bulb up, but I'm a bit worried about getting it all over the leaves. Last year I was noticing that if I got BFB on the leaves of plants (not onions) it was causing quite a bit of scorching and leaf damage. There's no way I can avoid getting it on the onion leaves because they've been battered by the winds and they're lying all over the place, it's like an onion jungle. Anybody know if BFB will cause damage on onion leaves?

The rain should wash it off I would think.

I'll stand corrected on this but if the leaves are lying flat then any additional feeding will have little effect.  Make some wire supports to keep the leaves upright,
I say this because I bend over the leaves to speed up the ripening process.
Besides BFB would take too long to benefit the plant.  I use wood ash.
I doubt that BFB would cause any damage, because it it is a natural product. It's chemical feeds that usually cause burning.

BFB is also slow releasing so should be ok. your soil bacteria will slowly break it down and release the goodness.

Sprinkle it over and then water to wash off any that is on the leaves.

Your neighbours may think you have gone daft.

It is slow acting so probably a waste of time. A liquid feed would be more available.
