Old seeds any good????????
« on: September 02, 2008, 20:59 »
Hi guys and gals
Could anybody advise me whether or not I can sow some out of date broad beans. They were packed june 05 and say sow by 2006. Do they need throwing out or will they still be ok to plant?. ( I am intending sowing them in next few weeks) Thanks!
The force is strong in this one!
(As Organic as possible)

If I can get them to germinate is there any reason why they wouldnt do as well in the long run as fresher beans?

No, germination is the key IMHO  :)

I have some Tomato seeds that are nearly 10 yrs old but they still germinate I have only enough for next year  :(

Excellent. Thanks for the advice I will give them a try. Just one more thing! Should I sow them indoors first of all or plant straight out and if so when would be best to do this. Thanks again!   :D

Broad beans are pretty hardy so outdoors at the right time, check on the packet it should tell you. Some varieties are more hardy than others from what I've read I'm trying them this year for the 1st time.
