Pinch me I’m dreaming- no blight😆!
« on: September 15, 2022, 08:25 »
Just had to mark the fact. I spent the spring  deep in anti blight logistics ( selecting varieties, hedging my bets by planting half the tomatoes in my back yard, spacing them out so no plants touched). But with the summer we’ve had, none got blight. If only I’d known, I’d have been more adventurous. I would have done some plum tomatoes too and maybe more beefsteak.

Lucky you  I got hit by blight early july. Two edible tomatoes from 9 outside plants. I think the only exotic plants I'll grow outside next year will be  chilli varieties that like cooler temps. Or maybe tomatillos again

Are you using an iPad? They don’t work anymore from my iPad but the forums ones do if I remember to use those instead

I think this year has just been too dry for Blight to take hold, it usually crosses the Channel in wet & windy weather.

Yes I was using my iPad snowdrops! Then I used a semi colon and open bracket and that worked. Sorry about those that got blight- two tomatoes out of 9 plants, that’s rough :( . I had beautiful seed grown aubergine plants but they got going  too late (? Lousy potting compost) and now won’t produce anything. While I have to contemplate my neighbour’s glorious fruit covered plants- he bought his at the garden centre. Next year I’ll be “ cheating” too.

I used crimson crush and avoided any blight. That said maybe I could have grown some slightly more exciting tomatoes given the heat. Next year I will be more adventurous and no doubt be knee deep in blight if I’m not careful. Difficult to know how to predict our weather!
Keep digging

To pinch or not to pinch that is the question???
