I understand that the black and white ink in newspapers are safe for seedlings. After potting up 55 garlic cloves a couple of days ago in newspaper pots.I have suddenly realised that the newspaper i have used contains coloured inks.

Most inks nowadays are soya based, however they still need to use heavy metals in them. Most are now considered safe but the problem is you don't really know how much heavy metal is in them.Upto you.

It's more the accumulation of heavy metals in the soil that is a problem this can be taken up by the palants and is then in the food chain.

Having said that I would't worry too much the levels are a lot lower than they used to be.
