Sweet Pea looked under the weather earlier this evening. Fluffed, depressed and standing in a corner all alone, not like her at all. I bathed around her vent and checked it and when hubby picked her up for me I noticed what looked like an egg membrane coming out of her vent. She's not laid for a while now since Dandelion became broody it seems to have put her off. I can't see any signs of an obvious prolapse, such as anything drastic hanging from her vent. Could she be egg bound, any ideas to help her please.

She seems a lot better now after passing the membrane, still not sure what was wrong with her though

sounds like she was laying a soft shelled egg, they can be off colour for a couple of days until they have passed it.

Thank you Joyfull, fingers crossed that she wasn't egg bound after all. It just seemed to come over her so quickly as she seemed fine earlier this afternoon. Hopefully all's well now that she's passed it but I'll keep an eye on her.

if you still think she is egg bound tomorrow then sit her in a warm bath for over half an hour, this will help relax her muscles so she can pass the egg. You can then towel dry her and then blow dry her (they like this - use a warm not hot heat setting).

Thank you for the advice joyfull. I'll keep a very close eye on her and will give her a warm bath as suggested if she shows any sign of being egg bound. I had wondered about a warm hairdryer in the past when I'd washed mucky botties but didn't think they would like being blown around the rear end as dogs hate it I thought maybe hens would too. Now that I know they like it I can dry them this way in the future
