Title: wildflower seeds

hi i have a plot 500m sq i would like to attract butterflies bees and birds so i am going to plant some perennial wildflower seed i am finding that it is all very expensive does anyone have any ideas where i could get some wild flower seed at a reasonable price or any ideas at all on how to cover this plot many thanks

Hi Ricky,  I've seen boxes of wildflower seeds for between £1.99 and £2.99 in Home Bargains and Aldi. I sowed some last year but the chickens ate them all so I can't say how good they are

B&M are selling some for 99p, don't know what area it covers.

Also wilkinsons and poundland.

Ebay are selling them as well but then you have to pay for p&p

I bought a box of wild flower seed from my local bargain shop, bit of swizz really,there were very small amounts of seed,but lots of some sort of bits used to bulk up the box

There not cheap to buy for what you get, i just planted about 40k of seeds on my plot but I bulked it up with mixed poppy and foxglove (both at 99p) from ebay i stuck some herbs in there as well, so that's the way to go, bulk up on less expensive ones as well, get some dry sand, mix it in to the sand, and then sow them that way, next year they will seed themselves, and you'll have a bigger show

Be careful what you buy & sow.

O/H bought a pack from a well known company & sprinkled it. The only thing that grew was creeping buttercup.  :mad:

It's everywhere.

Some places do seed as seperates, more expensive, but that way you can research & pick butterfly/bee species which are not highly invasive.
