Christmas Potatoes
« on: August 15, 2011, 09:56 »
I was considering doing some late spuds to be ready for Christmas but our site has been hit by blight, will this affect any new crop or is there any way of avoiding this?

You could grow them under cover, as this mght avoid the spores

I started a thread about this very subject some weeks ago! I have put in Chalotte and Orla. They are through already and doing well. We'll see however whether they make it until Christmas!!

Quick question about autumn planting. I'm going to plant mine in the tunnel at the end of this month. Should I grow them direct in the soil or in a tub?

Thanks in advance.  :)

Thanks Ricky!  Will get my potatoes in the ground in the tunnel in that case.  :D

Good luck with yours! Let us know how you get on.

this a sort of experiment to see how they grow a sort of catch crop,i put in ones called dunbar standard they should be ready around end of nov but me being so far north i will have to protect them from the dreaded frost maybe alot of newspaper over the top of them it was -20 here last year but hopefully it will be milder this year, and dont forget to spray for blight it got into my tunnel 2 years ago and ruined over 250 tomato plants you could actually see it moving through them everyday once its in its to late.
