Red Spider Mite on aubergines
« on: July 13, 2015, 13:38 »
My precious aubergine plants developed mottled leaves virtually overnight, and it is certainly red spider mite. It has gone to far for using bugs to control these.

Any recommendations for an organic spray that would be effective please?

I've never found anything to be particularly effective  :( All the stuff I've tried over the years on peppers both EU and non-EU approved  ;) have at best slowed things down.

If they're pot based you could try putting them outside for a few days, the rain and lower temperature might knock them back a bit - I've done this with the pepino and peppers this year as I just couldn't get control of things in the greenhouse.

•Edible plants can be sprayed with plant oils, plant extracts or fatty acids. These pesticides may require frequent applications to control the mite

Thank you --- I shall be on the fatty acid route then.

I wondered if any one had personal experience of one of these products?

In the past I've used a water spray which  slows'em up, so thought the fatty acid spray (ie wetting with soap) would do the trick  ;)

Good luck.

I used that spray on my broad beans recently and they made a full recovery from being completely covered in blackfly. If it works as well on spider mite, you'll be sorted!

The spray does say it works on spider mite, so it should do the job.
