I don't know about the rest but with dahlias we plant then 18 inches apart in staggered double rows 10 inches apart.

We stake each dahlia individually and also have posts around the outsides of the double rows ( about 1 very 3 plants ) which we then run string round, similar to DD's peas.

for dahlias asters ect you can plant a double row and use stock netting lying flat supported by stakes at regular intervals ,raise the netting aroung 18"-2' from the ground and let the flowers grow through it,got a pic some where of carnations grown this way,
found it

feed the soil not the plants
organicish

Now that's a serious cutting garden. I never stake my asters nor regular dahlias, but I must stake my 'dinnerplate' sized dahlias as they're so heavy and tall. Definitely fence or trellis sweetpeas, much as you'd stake peas, as they're climbers.

We're possibly a smidge more cautious because we show dahlias.

Shaun, that's a pretty impressive bunch of petals mate :D

Our dahlias are pampered to hell, nothing is allowed to grow near them :)

Dahlias or chrysthans need stacking however link stakes should work if you use them early.

Sweet peas are tall climbers.  Easiest solutions are the sorts of things you do for runner beans - pole rows or wigwams - with netting or criss-crossing string because they have tendrils rather than twining stems.  If you're aiming for big, show blooms (or really fancy cut flowers), you need to prune the plants as cordons; otherwise, you can pinch out the tops so you get several main stems per plant and lots of (smaller, less perfect) stems of flowers.
