Trailing squash plants
« on: August 17, 2009, 12:15 »
does anyone have any suggestions to what i should do with my trailing squash plants.

i am growning butternut and Turks Turban squash in my raised planters (about 3 ft high). the squash are trailing over the edges onto the floor which is no problems to me, but should i suspend them when they start coming through or just leave them where they are to do what they want?
I have one squash already and i think i will suspend it with some netting as it gets heavier!  Am i right to do this, i am sure it wont do any harm!

any advice will be lovely...Ta

Just leave them to do what they want. Some people put straw or a tile or something underneath the developing fruit to keep them off the soil, but I never bother. You can suspend them if you want but that's usually done when the plants are trailing over an arch or something.

I've grown Turbans this year on the ground with a lot of success.

They do weigh a fair bit so I'd support them.
Top tip for camping....don't go.
