Hello
« on: May 06, 2019, 19:35 »
New to gardening, new to the forum, thought I’d say hello.  Will promise not to ask lots of dumb questions and stick to reading the threads.

I live in west Wales and have three new raised beds, potatoes in bags and a few pots on a patio.  I’ve never grown anything before (not sure what made me pick up seed potatoes) and patience is definitely not my best characteristic.

Have got a few seeds potted in the glasshouse - which seem to be breaking through.  I’m hoping for some success but not too optimistic.

Welcome and don't worry. My horticultural knowledge starts with the seed catalogue and ends with the back of the seed packet. Been growing veg in small garden for a number of years - progressed to allotment late last year. Varying degrees of success but always produced some veg for the kitchen.

Given small garden I have grown things closer together than directed, they grow smaller but there is only two of us to feed so was not a problem.

As someone here said - "It's a pastime not a farm", enjoy.

Thank you!

Yes it’s more about getting my outside & not living in the office. Anything that actually grows is a bonus.

Welcome to the forum. No such thing as a dumb question. Think of it this way, you will never be the only one who doesn't know something. Bound to be more, me included, on the forum who want to know as well, but not brave enough to ask. So ask away. :)

Hi Belle and welcome  :D

Good to know you have space for growing veggies now... do you have a plan for what you will put in this year? Usually fairly mild weather over in West Wales, which means your last frost may be past already... hurray  :D :D

One tip... grow what you like to eat!!

Sounds like you’ve got plenty to go at with that nice lot. Good to be out in the fresh air. Some years some stuff goes mad & other years it’s the turn of something else I find so if you don’t do well with 1 or 2 off your list don’t put it down to you, try & try again. Well that’s what I do & ive been growing veg for 30+ years.

Welcome,
Plenty of good crops to be starting with.
Do not be afraid to ask anything, that is what a lot of this forum is about.
We all try new things and ways and even us more experienced gardeners learn many new things or have something that we start new or just need aa refresh now and again.

Hi, and welcome. This is a really good forum, a few different viewpoints so you can go with whatever suits you.

Enjoy, DHM
