Lame Chook..
« on: March 19, 2009, 07:33 »
Hiya all,
Poor Blossom has got  a really bad limp and has had now since Saturday  I picked her up on Saturday and thoroughly examined her foot and leg (well as much as you can when your chooks got fluffy knee highs and slippers on  anyway, no sign of anything, no cuts, no lumps - nothing :( so, I put her in a cage with food and water, assuming that perhaps she had sprained  her leg or something and that rest would sort it out. Sunday, my friend was here and we checked her all over again......nothing. Today, her foot is still clean, no cuts, but, maybe the ball of the foot, the big paddy bit is slightly  swollen...maybe...what do you think it could be, she can walk on it hardly at all :( she is eating and drinking though.
Thanks
Jelly

Could be a very small puncture wound which would be very hard to see and an infection's got in, or as you said she's sprained it. Heat and swelling would suggest an infection. Have you tried a warm salt water bath? If it is an infection you may need anti b's to shift it. Sure your healing hands will be able to tell whether there is any extra heat  :)

Hi Jelly

With you saying there is a swelling on the base of the foot it sounds like bumblefoot. Does the swelling feel hot or cold?

Thanks Kim and have replied. Basically peeps, no sign at all of a wound, scab different colour hardly even a swelling  I am really perplexed over this and will just have to keep trying. I may get a broad spectrum antibiotic from the vet later........just in case.
