Hello gardeners... I was reading a previous post from 2009 (without any results)re:growing allium seeds to see if they turn into bulbs...... my large purple bulb alliums have been readily reseading for years.
3 to 4 years ago I started growing clumps at different stages of growth, I finally dug up a four-year-old clump and they are just Woody little onions with roots !- no bulb formation after years of watering and caring for clumps from self seeded plants...
I’m not concerned about Seeds being true to the original type, just wondering how to get ANY kind of bulb after patiently waiting many years now, with healthy green growth taking up garden space - and no flowers!
Any experience out there better than the basics online?
I haven’t been able to find ANYthing about how to propagate this plant, perhaps you need a bulb cutting to get an actual bulb - and the variety I have doesn’t form bulbs from seed? I dunno...thank you!
