I don't get any trouble with flies.

How often do you clean the coop/house and run :?:

It might also be because I add garlic powder (horsey stuff) to the feed to deodorize any poos.

Redtop fly trap the best  8) www.ashmoat.com

oh forgot it stinks, keep away from the house but it will catch every fly for about 1/2 a mile    bit scary when you see how many you catch 1000's and 1000's

Would ordinary garlic do the same Aunt Sally, if I chopped it up and added it to the food.  They already get some in their drinking water once a week.

Hi there, I was thinking of getting one of these, is the smell really bad?  Where can you place it, anywhere?
Is it ok outside near the run/coop?
Does it just attract flies, was wondering about the poor bees?

Yes it would do the same, but I think they'd just eat it immediatly.  The horsey garlic powder is much cheaper and lasts ages.

It reminds me of the joke about how to keep the flies out of the kitchen. You keep a bucket of poop in the living room.

Smell is bearable in my opinion keep it as far from the house as possible and in a sunny spot, I think it needs to be at least a couple of metres away from the hens coop.
It only attracts flies.

Diatom says it will keep flies away from the compost heap. I had a problem last Summer with a cluster of flies that seemed to like the felt on top of one of the henhouses, Diatom saw them off and nothing since. Certianly worth a try!

Good luck!
