Chicken limping?
« on: July 25, 2010, 09:35 »
My amber star May suddenly developed a limp. we'd just put out the mash and she didn't have a limp then and they were all eating. when I opened the door again 10 minutes later when May was still at the bowl she hopped (like a blackbird would)  ??? towards the door. Then she started having a real limp on her right foot. We moved the leg in a circular motion but she didn't flinch. Her foot doesn't seem to have any thorns or anything in it either. Is it possible she just has cramp?
It's like America...But south!

Hi Ribbit and welcome back  :).
Does her leg feel warm to the touch? This could suggest a break or fracture, but more than likely she has just twisted it when landing.
Staffies are softer than you think.

It's hard to tell if it's warm like you suggest because she sits on it alot to rest so it makes it warmer, The second suggestion seems more likely as she's always jumping up for things eg Mealworms. But the thing is she didn't hop towards the mash when we put it down and she didn't move away from the bowl in that time but when the bowl started to get a bit empty she lunged a lot at Polly ( to keep her away) so maybe like a repetitive straining thing? And did anyone watch the programme about the behaviour of chickens?
