Hi Peter o, welcome to the Hen House :)

There's no swelling? Does the foot feel hot at all?

When one of my ducks started limping I popped him on cage confinement to reduce use and rubbed some Ibuleve gel on it twice a day.
I kept him in for a few days and he was fine when I popped him out again, although he still limps occasionally :)

Sarah :D

Maybe its just a little strain, keep an eye out for any other symptoms like looking unbalanced. Usually if just a strain will sort itself out in a day or so.
Keep us posted! :)

Hopefully it's just  sprain...if she's roaming free range in the garden then she may have been having a few adventures with bushes.

I have a chicken which is always hurting one particular foot. She's an ex-bat so I think she has a weakness on that leg. Last time (the fourth time she's started limping badly in three months) she got a large swelling on the foot. I checked that it wasn't bumblefoot - looked all over the Internet for pictures and read this site from top to bottom. It wasn't (phew). She was very happy in all other respects.

She still has a slight swelling two weeks on but is now walking with only the slightest limp so is healing herself. She's still quite shy so cleaning the foot was a bit of an issue. I sprayed Bach Flower Rescue Remedy on and that seemed to help a lot.

Incidentally, do we have a 'Daft Names' thread here? I haven't found one and if we do, I need to put my chooks' names up...

We have a name thread in the chicken chat forum (http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=31191.0)

sorry for hi-jacking peter!  I hope your chicken is getting better.
but keep an eye on it.

also: what height are your perches in the house? Barnies are heavy, so it might have hurt itself jumping down.
