Hi Everyone,
                  I dug up my first potato plant today (they were Estima & had been planted directly into earth with compost sprinkled over the top). Although they were not ready, Most of them had "V" shape grooves through them as if they had split several times !!!
 The largest 1 was about 2-3 inches & the smallest was probaby less than an 1 inch.
 Could some please tell me what has happened to them ?
 Would these spuds be ok to replant ?

splitting spuds as you describe is not enough water  :roll:

Shaun is right, the splitting is caused by not enough water.

I can't see that being a problem at the moment

I wouldn't replant a spud next year thats less than 100% perfect.

... the problem you have has most likely been caused by uneven watering, which is so easy to do with things in pots.
