Flaming Katy died
« on: May 11, 2013, 12:55 »
We were bought a large bowl of healthy "Flaming Katy" a few weeks ago. I kept it to the instructions on the label and slowly the leaves fell off one by one. Finally one plant left so re-potted and it's just about at it's end. I did all the correct things.

Are they designed to go this way so you will buy more ? It was a gift that cost £8  :(

Hubbali, I am spotting a trend here with your posts

I have never known anyone with such a variety of plants that manage to die in their care.

It does sound like this one was over watered....another trend perhaps?  :)

Not at all. It said to keep the soil moist. Don't despair though as I have revived my 2 types of ivy and the maidenhead fern  :)

Their leaves usually fall of if the soil is too wet

You are just surmising

You could always post photos. It's easy enough and seeing the problem always makes it easier to diagnose than have to guess or surmise.

It was a supposition based on experience.

As arugula said, a photograph would be helpful in diagnosis

I had one, which the O/H hated, so he threw it in the garden, survived a London winter outside & grew like a weed the following summer, so pretty hardy.

It's a succulent type plant, so stores water in the leaves, in my experience too much water is normally their biggest killer.

As iI replied to you on another post, didn't i read you work in a garden centre? have you asked anyone's advice there? have you taken any of your poorly plants in & asked them to diagnose the problem?

I do part time work every spring and summer potting on cuttings and other tasks. It's not a garden centre, just a nursery.

Can they not offer some specific advice for you to help you prevent some of these plant deaths?
