hi, i was wondring if any one can help, it might seem like a daft question but i go fishing and often have some maggots left over at the end of the day. I was thinking if i scattered them in the chicken run they may make a nice treat for my girls but just wanted to check they would be safe for them to eat. thanks.

Hi Massa , a fellow angler here . Although the maggots are well cleaned i always have it in mind that the maggots are raised on poultry offal which could be full of nasties so i would not risk it.
Having said that one of the favourite summer hobbies of the hens is eating bluebottles which could have been anywhere. I have no idea if bacteria etc that they eat as a maggot will survive in the adult fly.
Grow some mealworms for the hens , useful for bait too. :)

Not worth trying until it warms up, unless you have room in the airing cupboard.
