I have an assortment of large plastic pots that are looking a bit shabby but have plenty of life left in them.  At present they are a mix of grey and faded terracotta colour.  I'd like them all to be the same colour.

Does anyone have any ideas what paint I should use?

Acrylic paints or gloss enamels (these are outdoor and waterproof) seem to be recommended but they are awfully expensive.

I have the same problem but believe me they ain't going to get painted at those prices as I have a large concrete hard standing down the middle of my plot that is covered in large pots for growing. And it's a lot of pots of various sizes but mostly bigger.

Thank you, back to the drawing board it is!!!  I agree at those prices scruffy is the way to go.

I had some large plastic buckets from the florist.    I bought a sheet of the sticky stuff for bins, cut out the pretty bits and stuck them on.  I am pleased.    Mrs Bouquet

I was painting a fence panel when the phone rang, I propped my brush on a nearby trough and answered it.  When I came out I found some paint had got on the trough.  This was back in April.  It's still there and I then painted the rest of the trough as it was looking a bit sad at the time.  Don't know if it will last over winter but shed and fence paint (we sell it at £12.99 for a 5ltr can) is a lot cheaper so I don't mind if I have to touch it up each year.

We bought some rather nice shaped plastic pots from a GC sale (only go for the cheap stuff!) and painted them with S..dtex, the rough one, in the 1990's. They have weathered well (good advert  easier to paint than lighthouses) and are now ready to be painted again. Best to buy the little tins - a little can go a long way.

Whoops, just re-read this and realised Sunnywillow was talking about masonry paint which does come in both textured and smooth formats.  Realised I had said I used Sandtex shed and fence which is only smooth.

i restore and paint quite a lot of concrete pots and use an emulsion paint usually white mixed with a little black emulsion to give them a grey effect as for the plastic well they also get a coat of emulsion to although it doesn't last for ever i give them a refresher when needed

and i usually get someone giving  me the left over paint they are going to through away cheep and cheerful
