Getting chicks to use the hen house
« on: October 26, 2009, 16:45 »
Does anyone have any great tips for getting my chicks to use the hen house a nights.

They are about 10 weeks old and have been integrated with my hens for about 4 weeks.  Every night my hens climb the ramp to their house, but the chicks settle underneath the house.  It's a dry and sheltered spot but not as secure against predators as the house is.

IS there any way of encouraging them in?  I would have thought they would follow the hens up eventually, but I think they are happy in their own gang!

Any suggestions would mean I don't have to scramble around in the dark trying to fish them out every night!

I'm afraid you will have Physically put them in for a few nights until they get the message!

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink! :D

Good luck.
