Freezing Cake?
« on: August 22, 2013, 10:49 »

Am making a chocolate courgette cake tonight, well the one you put in a tray and then cut into squares, are they okay to freeze?  And is it ok to wrap in tin foil for the freezer.  I have made this one before but never frozen it

I've never used tin foil in the freezer - I freeze portions in small polybags  ;)

A recipe i use for apple cake says to wrap in foil, but in this house cake being frozen would be a miracle. It never gets out of the pan and cool before someone is eyeing it up.  ::)

You have to make it when they are all out

And you can freeze cake, and you can wrap it in tin foil but it is better to put it either in poly bags or clingiflm.

I only wrap garlic bread in tinfoil as a time saving measure so I can lob it straight into the oven or BBQ.

Cherry and walnut cake I always wrap in foil for freezing,  all other cake goes in a poly bag.   My mum always did this and I have just kept the tradition,  not sure if the foil makes a difference or not!

We wrap savoury things such as lasagne portions and shepherds pie in foil and sweet things are either in the foil trays (crumbles), plastic Chinese take away boxes (tray bakes), or clip sandwich boxes (muffins etc) or as a last resort poly bags (the thick freezer ones). I'm not a huge fan of poly bags though it has to be said for loose things tht are prone to freezer burn. I prefer using bags for fresh meat etc
