mini greenhouse from junk
« on: April 16, 2011, 16:31 »
OK we were planting up some seed trays, and I asked the wife where she wanted them put.
Well we didnt have anywhere so I looked up the price of cheap plastic greenhouses - £20 OMG...
Well looking round the garden I spotted a spare rose arch, two piles of bricks with holes in made a support for the feet, a couple of diagonal braces for strength and some old planks I had been saving for fence making from deconstructed pallets and I had a frame, for the plastic cover I dug out the plastic bag that came with a mattress in, was it beg enough - yes it was perfect, just the right size to slide over the rose arch. yay result, a new 4 tier plastic conservatory for no extra cost from stuff we had lying around the house.

Lovely job there

10 out of 10 ! :D    I've been knocking up a fruit cage from bits and bobs,  I 'discovered' some stainless steel brackets that were destined for the skip a few employers ago.  I've also used the transportation bolts from our new washing machine in the construction.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

look in builders skips and put a want on freecyle regularly for double glassed window or just the glass. These are thrown away all the time. Particuly the glass as they only last so long before water gets between the 2 layers of glass. Bit by bit I am getting enough for a greenhouse. Although i havent yet worked out how to deal with he problem of all the different sizes? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

well it obviously works, mini radishes are all up, and beans, peas and pumkin shoots just poking through.

Thats what I was thinking might look a bit daft and It will end up with some parts with no glass at all (just wood from pallets). I can see myself with loads of glass on tht floor trying to work it out like a giant jigsaw??

I have a whole heap of double glazed windows and a door - the plan was for a conservatory, but we scored a reasonable one on ebay, so now I am thinking greenhouse with them, as you say it will be like a patchwork quilt, but hey it will be free.
