Limping hen
« on: September 27, 2010, 22:58 »
Being a new hen keeper I have a problem......
Have limping hen (ex-battery).  Taken her to a vet (useless), given pain killer - that was fun trying to coax a hen to eat bread soaked with medicine!!  Week later she's still hopping around.  One claw looks like she's knocked it (or I may have accidentally trodden on it - you know how they love to walk under your feet!!).  Any suggestions on how to treat her?  She's fine in herself, eating and drinking, but is there any other "easy" remedy.

One of my hens was limping cause I caught her with a spade when o was diggin and she got under my feet. She had a sore patch on her leg and was linpmong so I used antiseptic spray on it twice a day until it cleared and after about a fortnight her limp went as well. She may well have bruised it as well so may take time.  Hope that helps a bit.

Thanks for that.  There's no cut visible will try the spray.  She may have a bruise/broken claw?  How do you tell?
