Courgettes
« on: April 23, 2013, 13:14 »
It's my first year growing them. So far it's in the house. Is it too early for cold frame or greenhouse?
All the way from my allotment in beautiful Derbyshire. I'm in year 3 of my allotment and wish I'd caught the bug years ago, things growing from strength to strength

Hi, my courgettes (some of which were sown to early) are in the GH during the day and in doors at night .... same with my toms, chillis, peppers, sweetcorn.
I wont be planting or leaving them in the GH over night until the risk of frost has passed .... which is mid may for Leicester.

Mine are also in the cold frame (which is where I sowed them) and they are just showing their first true leaves now. I find they are quite hardy, as long as protected from the frost. I will plant them out when they have a third set of leaves on but will still protect them with cloches until all risk of frost has passed.
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!

Up here mine don't even get sown until early May and then indoors. They don't go outdoors until June. Ditto with the pumpkins.

Mine will be sown in the first week of May, along with my squashes. I don`t really have enough space for loads of tender plants in the house, cold frame etc. With the late spring, it all seems to be a bit of a rush.
I find that this is generally plenty of time for them - the warmer weather helps them belt along and they don`t sit and sulk like earlier sowings do if it`s a bit too chilly.

Sowed mine today.
I'll keep them indoors for as long as possible then into the greenhouse and then, if we actually get a summer up here they can go in the garden.

I'm in Derbyshire and won't be sowing mine yet. They won't be planted out until the second week in June, when hopefully all danger of frost will be past.
