Where's my chicks?
-
dunno  very careless of you to lose them scabs ;)
-
This is no joking matter... I'm very upset. It said on the guarantee '21 days' and I want my chicks NOW! >:(
I reeeeally hope I haven't got a dud batch. :( There's not a peep or a cheep or a chirrup and mum looks really cross.
-
if she is still sitting on them then chances are she can feel them moving around so you will just have to be a little bit more patient :)
-
Oh yes, she's still sitting. And growling.
I can't wait!!!
No patience...
-
so much easier when they do like mine did and clear off for a few weeks then return with her little ones following her - well it would be easy if she had realised she should teach them to feed instead of abandoning them ::)
-
You might be in for a long wait. It could take up to 25 days :tongue2:
However I know how you feel. I'm on day 17 (incubator eggs) and I'm getting nervous already!
-
Don't tell me that, I'll be a wreck!!!
-
My broodys eggs were 2 days late this time :(so no need to worry yet :)
-
Don't tell me that, I'll be a wreck!!!
so whats new? ;)
-
Mine were 3 and 2 days early :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2: Although that did mean mum abandoned the last egg, even though it was pipping, so there is a good side to eggs all being late - at least you should (fingers crossed) get them all out at the same time :)
-
so whats new? ;)
Meanie. :tongue2:
Fingers crossed I'll get home and they'll all be there looking up at me...
-
fingers crossed for you - let us know as soon as you know :)
-
But of course...
-
you did count the day you put the eggs under the broody as day zero didn't you and not day 1?
-
Well, d'uh. ::)
Er, did I? Yeah... I did... I think...
-
so they may or may not be due today then afterall ;)
-
so they may or may not be due today then afterall ;)
No, I did. :D
Just playing to my dimwit reputation! ;)
-
I am so excited though...
-
just think by the end of the day you could be the proud grandfather to a brood of little cockerels ;)
-
Don't think that hasn't already occurred to me!
-
time will tell - what breed are you hoping to hatch?
-
time will tell - what breed are you hoping to hatch?
Could be anything, the eggs came from an open paddock with White Stars, Bluebelles, Warrens and other mixed-ups, and a couple of ??? cocks.
I'd quite like a couple of White Stars for the eggs.
-
well those breeds shouldn't be too difficult to sex the little ones when they get to about 6 weeks. Unless of course the boys were silkies or araucanas.
-
No, don't think so. He keeps his 'good' stuff on a different plot.
We shall see...
-
good luck with them, hope they all hatch safely, nickyx
-
Thank you. :)
-
Mrs Scabs has just been on the phone all giddy and squeaky...
Our first bubba! Yaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!
Sorry about the quality but I told her not to disturb them too much!
-
wooo hooo congratulations :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2:
-
aaarrrgh an ickle baby, congratulations Mr and Mrs Scabs on becoming proud grandparents, hope mum and baby are doing well and fingers crossed for the others.
However please leave mum alone for a bit now :)
-
Way ahead of you - orders have been passed down the line to stay away. ;)
-
bet you have a silly grin on your face don't you?
-
Oh yes. :)
-
:D :D :D What a pretty baba it is too
-
Awww congratulations :D :D
-
There's now four and a proper mixed bag.
Had to fight the urge to take another peek. :)
-
Four little baby scabs, how sweet
Bet the rest hatch today so mum will bring them out to feed very soon - get that camera ready :D
-
I know... my little girl was crying yesterday because I said it was best not to disturb them. Had a peek this morning (couldn't resist), much to mum's annoyance and there they were.
When will she want to start taking them outside? My book isn't very clear.
-
either when she is sure no more will hatch, or after they all have hatched or in the case with one lot of mine she bought out 5 and left two eggs which had gone under her a couple of days later so I figured they could be still viable so I rushed to Grannies and Brian popped them into their incubator and yes they still hatched out. When she does bring them out to feed, quickly go in and clean the coup out and remove any unhatched eggs and shells.
-
Cool, will do.
I know one of the eggs isn't viable because my son dropped one of the original ones very early on and when I looked again (this was before the other hens were removed) there were 12 again! Then she kicked one out and I had no idea which was the unfertilised one!
Soooo... we could have six more bubbas. Or no more, I guess.
Anyone know what colour a white star chick is? So far there's a yellow one (Warren?), a yellow/brown one, a black one and a speckeldy/grey/black one... I think.
I'll get a photo tomorrow or saturday, I guess.
-
yellow chicks often turn out to be white chickens :D
-
Ah... good. :)
I assumed they'd be Warrens from pictures of farms full of yellow chicks. There's a logic there, you have to admit.
-
well I know my yellow araucana chicks (and the lavender and yellow chicks) turned out white, but my yellow silkie cross chicks turned out pale gold coloured. Don't worry though as it won't be long before they start to get wing feathers (usually within a few days) so you should soon find out if they will be white chickens :)
-
I really wish I wasn't at work...
-
couldn't you try for paternity leave ;)
-
poulternity leave perhaps?
-
:nowink:
-
congratulations :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D nickyx
-
Thanks! :)
-
Hopefully here is a pic of my last lot of Amberlink (white) chicks and the Goldline (brown) chicks when they were tiny! The Goldlines are similar to warrens scabs!
I think the little yellow storybook chicks you see in books are probably baby white Leghorns! I don't think they did stories with Warrens in! :D
-
That's one of the cutest pics I've seen, I just want to jump in there and snuggle up.
-
:D :D :D :D

And get poo'ed on... lots and lots and lots and...
-
There's the magic shattered!! ::)
-
Look's like she's had enough. Report from home says that she is off the eggs and has taken the chicks to the feeder...
Looks like six eggs left behind...
-
Ok. Five chicks from 10 'viable' eggs; mum has taken the chicks to the food and the remaining eggs are stone cold. I guess I remove them?
Also, one of the chicks is flumped on the ground, it's legs seem fine but it just lies there ... :(
