Title: Toffee icing
Post by: Janeymiddlewife on September 04, 2010, 10:59
I've got to make a cake for my twins birthday bash tomorrow - they have requested a toffee cake. I've made toffee muffins before by cutting up value toffees and  it works if you eat them warm, but not sure how I'd go about it in a traybake/slab cake?

Also - any ideas about toffee icing or buttercream?

I've just thought...OK it was painful, but could you use the caramel that you put in banoffee pie for a topping/filling (I just boil up condensed milk until it thickens)?

OOOh, that DOES look nice!

I've been meaning to make a gypsy tart for years!  I may make one this afternoon.  Very sweet and sickly I know, but it was the only dessert I liked at school!!!

Amazing how tastes differ - gypsy tart always had me running for the door - yuukk - now rice pud and jam - now you're talking!

This thread should be reported to the moderators. It is bad for my health.  :)

Great for my sweet tooth though!

I might have told you this before..... when I was nursing, an elderly gentleman with Alzheimers communicated his dislike of tapioca pudding non-verbally..............

ie - he threw it over me   it went EVERYWHERE and I MEAN everywhere - complete change of clothes including underwear needed :D

What person in a fit of madness decided that tapioca was a) edible and b) a good thing to feed to children at school dinners? Was it the same person who decided to defrost bottles of milk on top of the school radiators? Bleeugghh? Or the person who handed out codliver oil and malt? How did we survive, I wonder?

I had apple pie with a thick sticky toffee topping once in a cafe.  It was absolutely gorgeous but I've never been able to make it the same.  Wondering if this would work?  I make sticky toffee pudding but mine has a runny pour on sauce.

By the way, I started my diet today. ::)
