Nasty shock this morning
« on: November 21, 2009, 09:33 »
Got up to let the girls out, and I found Jelly outside the coop, dead :(

There wasn't a mark on her, and it wasn't that cold last night.  Poor wee girl.  She was only just 32 weeks old.

It was dark when I got home from work last night so I must have miscounted on my headcount when I closed the coop up.

Oh dear SO very sorry to hear that,
it is a timely reminder that chooks seem so strong and characterful, we forget that they can be so fragile too.
Your not alone in getting the head count wrong, I have done it and poor Honey was out all night, only when O H let them out next morning did we realise what had happened, I was convinced Charlie (Fox ) had got her, WE were lucky, sad , but so easily done.
Really feel for you, BIG hugs {{{{{{XX

Oh what a shame  :( I expected a similar event on Tuesday as we had a missing beak in the house when we got back from work - after dark these days of course. A long search didn't turn her up so we just had to hope. She was on the doorstep next morning having spent one of the worst rainy nights in the open in mid-moult. A sad sight, but she stuffed herself on corn and was fine.
3 o'clock is both too early and too late to start anything - Sartre said so.

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!
