Thank you
Aiming to introduce a bigger and better veggie patch and child friendly chickens to my nursery!

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Yep, mint, you can get so many different ones with different smells, but my favourite smelly herb is basil!  I can't cook with tomatoes without a bit of Basil, and rosemary smells nice too

DON'T GET RUE!!!!! It burns like crazy

Mint is easy to grow, try stopping it  :)  Rosemary is a must in any herb garden as is sage and thyme  :)

Lavender is lovely too, though it's not a traditional herb it is edible, and smells lovely.

Oops, killed the mint in our garden when we first grew it :(

Always good to remember about allergies when getting herbs especially for a sensory garden.

Just from personal experience, if any of the children have epilepsy, particularly if it isn't well controlled, it's best to avoid rosemary. The strong oil in it has been shown to sometimes trigger seizures.
   Best wishes

I wouldn't be without chives.

Snip up a few leaves and put them in egg sandwiches for  the children to eat, add the flowers to salads and grow some more plants from the seeds which set easily after the flowers have faded :)

Marjoram, thyme and oregano - all grow low, so they fill in gaps well, or you can even put then in the cracks of paths to walk on. Particularly good on warm summer days (sorry drifted off to fantasy land there...)

Bronze fennel grows quickly  (to about 6ft), it has lovely feathery foliage with a strong aniseed scent.
I personally haven't had much success with basil outdoors.
lemon verbena (best lemon scent) and lemon balm (which is hardier but can be invasive in open ground) are both worth growing and can be used to make a lovely sorbet.
