Mr Fox attack
« on: June 21, 2012, 12:45 »
Very sad today. This morning, about 7.30am, Mr Fox paid us a visit and wiped out our three new girls.  I think two of them died from shock and the third suffered terrible injuries.  My neighbour witnessed this over the garden fence and was throwing things at it to scare it, but it just stood its ground!  We are left with our old girl, Maggie, who we think was probably in the nest box at the time so had a lucky escape.  I hope she'll be ok, cus just cowering in the back of the Eglu.  Have left her quietly as she doesn't appear to have any injuries.  Feel devastated. x

So sorry Maybelle you must be gutted.

I would leave Maggie in her familiar surroundings if she is not injured.  A neighbour brought 2 of his hens in after a fox attack and they died.  I don't think household noises are good for them when they are in shock.

Oh Maybelle, this is just awful.  That is my worst nightmare.  I am so very sorry that this happened to you.   I'm not sure how the fox got in, but I hope it can be easily corrected.   :(
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

So sorry, horrible for you (and them). Do consider using some electrified poultry netting, it is really easy to set up (the standard poultry netting that has wire in the strands, with a leisure battery you can get from halfords). It has revolutionised my chicken keeping, I no longer have to worry about the foxes and my girls can stay out all day now. Good luck.
