Do you believe everything you are told !!  :tongue2: ... sorry I'll get my coat ...

Don't forget Easter is early this year ... but as it's a four day w/e it is usually a convenient time for many to get out on the plot  :D

... also the longer they are in the ground the greater the harvest

Plant at Easter
Years ago normal everyday folk did not have access to Calenders or even the correct time of day. So planting of crops in the fields or gardens were, like a great many other things in their short lives, controlled by the church and its feast days.  If you did not have any way of knowing it was March 12th or April 15th except by what was happening in the church it made sense to organise your yearly planting according to the noteworthy High Days.  They did have a great many other signs to look out for but the churches blessing was worth having. The habit carried on until well after the second world war, with sayings passed down from generation to generation. Nowadays even little chidren have access to dates and times.

And, of course, those Christian calendar dates were based on pagan planting festivals.  I think I read somewhere that the original celebration of Christs birth was in spring but it slipped back to the midwinter festival which became Christmas.
Anyway, I'll be planting me early spuds come Easter whoever is in charge of the universe.

Johns Easter Planting
A small problem with that a few hundred years ago.  Some people went by the Julien Calender and some by the Gregorian.  Which meant 2 easters in each year on different days. And you are right Easter is named after a Pagan God.  So look over your shoulder when planting thats one god you do not want to meet.

Even if the moon is in aquarius
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

A small problem with that a few hundred years ago.  Some people went by the Julien Calender and some by the Gregorian.

1582 if you are interested, saw the introduction of the Gregorian Calendar by Italy and Spain.  Britain followed in 1752.

September 1752, in Britain, looked like this:
Tue 1
Wed 2
Thu 14
Fri 15, etc

The 3-13th inclusive were deemed absent to correct for the 11 day discrepancy which had accumulated in the Julian calendar system used prior to that.  More info on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gregorian_calendar
