Title: Best soil for Tatties.
Post by: Kleftiwallah on February 01, 2021, 11:03
An easy question...do tatties grow better in firm soil or in 'fluffy' soil (recently dug over).

Cheers,  Tony.

They grow better in fluffy soil. Firm soil causes the tubers to grow misshapen.

after the plots have been ploughed up in the Autumn come spring we till the ground with our tractor and harrows then using our rotavator we make a fine tilth then plant the potatoes together with a potash based potato fertilizer

then we leave the potatoes to grow finally weeding and ridging the crop and nothing more is done till we harvest always done this method without any probs
