Despite meticulous rotation, we get potato scab all the time. There's no cure. But it doesn't at all affect the taste or storability of the tater. Peel as usual.

Raising the acidity of the soil where you are going to plant spuds by adding some peat or grass clippings when planting can help to deter it apparently. :?

I must admit I grew some picasso spuds once and they all came out like that after a long dry spell.

Spuds were fine and kept well too,so I wouldn't worry about 'em  :D

I thought the larger darker blotches on Alex's photo were mud.

Don't know what you call it then in the UK, but the mottled bits on that spud are called scab over here. Annoying mostly but not harmful. No cure for it except find fresh land where spuds haven't been grown before.

scab forms a circular rosette type lesion this comes after dry or wet spells and can be a secondary of the splitting virus .this looks more like the mosaic form

Interesting. We get only the mosaic scab here then as I've never seen the other. Canada has a high reputation for few potato diseases, unlike you poor souls in the UK with most every spud disease known.

this is my 2nd years of growing and ive had scab both times...and its the first time the soil has grown anything apart from grass and weeds in twenty years at least.the scab isnt major just a few spots - is it because its nearly cultivated ground?
ive grown the same fe variety both times tho - maris bard. dont think ill be using it again.got blight both times as well.
