Silly question, but what colour are broad Bean seeds.

I am new to grow your own and bought some BBS to grow.

When I opened the packet they were a light brown colour.

Is this correct.

Thanks

Yes. There are other seed colours, too.

Yes it is confusing but that colour is perfectly  all right.

I supposed if you had been kept over winter and had dried out, you would change colour too.
If it rots compost it
If it burns burn it
If it is chocolate eat it

Put them out in soil, in situ they germinate on as low as 2-5 C. Takes longer, mind, but on these temperatures we have now, will be much faster, whereas - I don't know - they might just rot in your kitchen towel now.

Do you get beans from the plants sown now . I always think of Broad Beans as Autumn or Spring sown.

We ate the tops from our beans this week they are delicious and stops the blackfly attack as they enjoy the tender tops too.

Why would we keep doing it otherwise? :?  That's of course, supposing that one was sane.

Well, surprisingly they originate from North-Africa, Middle East, something like that, I believe. Stand the cold well, but do a good summer crop, too.

Has anyone else noticed very poor pollination rates this year?

I've put an entire packet of Aquaduce and an entire packet of suttons dwarf in and Im looking at 2-3 pods per plant. Even from the 100 or so plants I'll be lucky to get 2 -3 meals from them.

Re Poor pollination.

We have a bee keeper who has had a hive on our site. He keeps loosing whole colonies of bees and has said that there is a bee flu or something like that keeps wiping them out. The hive is empty this year.

I have not had the same number of bees we used to have before he came. If this is a 'universal' problem then we are down to the cotton buds and paint brushes to DIY the job.

Seems almost kinky!
