Can anybody tell me how to freeze apples and pears, cos we have loads and want to make wine, pies and crumbles in the future, do you have to puree them? Cheers.
All we are saying, is give peas a chance.

Hi there, i'm new here but i have frozen apples for many years I peel them and slice them af if ready to make a tart then freeze them in plastic bags, giving them a good shake every now and then as they freeze, then you can tip some out as they are needed, all the best Jane

I freeze things on trays and shake them every hour before bagging. I will try shaking tha bags next time as it sounds easier :)

I have tended to cook the fruit then freeze.
Most fruit when frozen will form ice crystals that break the cells, so when unfrozen the fruit is slightly pulped anyway.
Also the cooking will destroy bacteria present in the fruit, should allow it to be kept for longer in the freezer.

To freeze apples, you can peel and core them, drop them briefly into
salted water (1 tablespoon for a gallon of water), shake or dry them and put into plastic bag to freeze.  You can either slice or cube the apple or even freeze entire (without core and skin)
