So after three years of attempting to grow parsnips after seeing some germination for a week or so today i saw the delights of two lovely rows of parsnips growing!!!!

I sowed direct in the soil with new seed purchased just bvefore sowing.

Already i cant wait to get them in the over and drizzle some honey over

4 paper-pots in a baking greenhouse and now 4 prasnips  :happy:

So why on earth did I only do the 4?  :blink: 

I know: "An experiment to see if the little ***'s would grow that way as they'd refused to on the plot for the last two years.

Busy making paper-pots tomorow if I have the time. (Fat chance  )

Never have any trouble with snips germinating but I grow mine in containers started off in the greenhouse. 

I think many problems are caused by people sowing too early into the open ground when the soil is still too cold.

I sowed mine in cardboard tubes and planted them out. Tried it this way for the first time as I always had poor germination sowing direct.

Now I`ve noticed two other plotholders who have sowed direct and they have a continuous line of touching seedlings. Around 90% will need to be thinned.

I sowed 3 rows out on the 19th of March, and they took about 4 weeks to come up, but they are up now and starting to grow well.

i sowed mine easily 3-4 weeks ago and now i can tell what is a weed or a parsnip. i keep looking but i am sure nothing has come up.

Success here too - sowed ours in deep rooters and all have germinated  

But I am starting to panic now.. I don't think we will have enough space to transplant them all in the veggie patch

My "fresh" parsnip seeds were sown directly into the soil just over 3 weeks ago and are coming up nicely now, although my nerves are shot to pieces as they are every year when it comes to parsnip germination!

put a bout 20 in paper pots 3 weeks ago in greenhouse and nowt yet...might try some in the ground see what happens.

Yep I got a row of directly sown seed come up in the last week or so, they took about 4 weeks. Not so much luck with carrots here though, I have ended up having to transplant them from a trough in the greenhouse after 5 attempts of direct sowing on plot!

I've had my allotment for 3 years and i have grown my parsnips direct every time and had no problem with germination of parsnips . i sowed them about 5weeks ago and they are just showing their true leaves , in fact they are so prolific i  have to thin them so much so i get a good size snip, now my neighbour lottie holder has struggled in all the3 years i've known them . i introduce manure to the bed a year before i use it for snips for other crops  whether thats a contributing factor i don't know
