Moss
« on: December 10, 2009, 14:00 »
:)  I have a problem with what I can only describe as moss. It doesn't look like the conventional moss that I know as it has small leaves. It however does grow on walls and creeps onto the lawn killing the grass. Any suggestions for banishing It?  ;)

Any chance of a picture? It sounds to me like a plant called, and don`t take offence, Mind Your Own Business. And it is a nightmare to get rid of.

It is better than alchemilla in problem places though David. ;)

In my last garden I killed the lot with glyphosate. Then after long enought to ensure it was dead and gone, I reseeded the spoilt bit of lawn.

Lesley, I agree with the glyphosate, but if you miss just ONE of those plantlets you are soon back to square one. Took GREAT pleasure yesterday of ripping out many alchemilla seedlings from a clients path. :D :D :tongue2:

Before Vision destroys the lawn it might be an idea to make sure that it is mind-your-own-bussiness. Advice based on half knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Try google images for Soleirolia soleirolii .

I remember as a kid asking my mum what it was and being amazed at the name. Lazy Mum let it grow rampant and we had a rather lovely "Mind-Your-Own-Business" lawn.....
