wire mesh
« on: February 18, 2009, 08:43 »
Hi guys ive been reading around on the forums about wire mesh. And i must admit im a little confused with all the talk of guage and hole size etc etc. Can you have a look at the below link and let me know if this is the right stuff for keeping foxes and rats out and also if this is a good price to pay. Im so confused! Sorry guys!

Thanks
Andy

That's the stuff.
The price looks good too - we paid about £10 for 9 metres in B&Q, so 30metres for £50 is alright.

the gauge is just the wire thickness used to make it. 19g is approx 1mm dia.
Foxes can chew through thinner gauge wire.

The hole size just the space between the wires. At that spacing, you should keep out rats, as well as foxes. :)

That's where I got mine from. Very good delivery service too.  Actually, when you've got excess weldmesh you can always find uses for it!

I've seen a rat use my fence as a ladder so unless your putting a roof on to you may not be totally rat free  :(

They look quite funny trying to balance on the top of a thin fence
It looked even funnier afterwards

hi, i'm back - just checked their website and they have 6mtrs for £25.98, so I think my second guess was right - but it was 2 years ago, so the price has gone up.
So your website is cheaper.

That's where I got my mesh from for chicken runs and rabbit fencing. Very nice helpful people.
There is another place that might be a bit cheaper. dorsetwire or somesuch. I will see if I can find a link.
What you have on that link is weld mesh, good stuff, better than what I bought (chicken mesh). It will last a lot longer than mine. ;) Those holes are small enough to keep chicks in too. :D
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".
