Moth visitor

This fella spent the night in the hall and is still there!
Any idea what it is please, I can’t identify it from my book, but it is quite big, measuring about 4cm along the body. Will try to make sure it has left before I shut the door tonight

When it comes to bedtime, I turn all the lights off in the house,  open the front door and the security light comes on, and in a few minutes they fly out to the light.  But why do they come out at night in the dark - and then go for light ?  That's a handsome fella you've got there.  Mrs Bouquet
