Just been catching up on some of the posts and saw Lynne had asked about buying small quanities of seed potatoes.
There are a number of Potato Days round the country that sell small quanities - even individual potatoes I believe - and have a large variety available. I can't actually recommend as I haven't been before but they sound good and I will be trying my local one in Whitchurch in January. :!:
They also sell seeds and do a seed swap.
The web site for the Whitchurch one is
http://thewhitchurchweb.org/potatoday/
It says there are others at:
If Whitchurch Hampshire is not close enough there are other Potato Days at Ryton (Nr Coventry), Cheltenham, Dulwich (SE London), Lancaster, Needham Market (Suffolk), Lancaster, Bowburn (Country Durham), Middlesborough, Nescliffe (Shropshire), Saltaire (West Yorkshire) and Galashields (Borders)

And don't forget that 2008 is International Year of the Potato!
True :)

Thanks for that, the one in Shropshire will probably be my nearest. I have cleared and dug my patch for potatoes already.

Bean/Lynne I have been to the Whitchurch potato day for the last two years and can thoroughly recommend it! All the things you can imagine are covered. There are lectures from Sparshalt on how to grow your spuds through to how to cook them which variety for what etc. This is before the question of the vast array of spuds you can buy in large or small quantities. They also have peas, beans, onions, shallots etc for sale too.
All in all a great day for anyone who grows their own spuds
Cheers HH

Thanks for the recommendation HH.
I had put it in my diary to get my spuds, but I will make sure I can spend some time there. I grew a few spuds in pots this year but can't wait to do the real thing :D

Hmm I may have to go to Dulwich (pah south london!) then.
