Finding a post - How
« on: April 28, 2011, 12:16 »
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to find the post by ICE showing how he constructed his veg/fruit frame complex please?
I have tried to see if it is possible to search on here by members name but without any success.
Thanks for any help.

 Oops - I'm so sorry
Even as I was typing 'he' I thought I might be wrong because it is such a brilliant, innovative, practical and attractive (how am I doing?) design as only a female could come up with  ;)

No really - I am genuinely sorry I reconfigured your sex.....I'm hanging my head in shame.

As it happens it was my hubby who spotted your design and was so impressed with it that he rushed down to Wickes and purchased several metres of the blue pipe and asked me to find the thread again for him so he could have a go at it.
MumofStig - where would I be without your help? Thanks again and again to both of you.

Can't really argue with that.

Use net with a smaller mesh for cabbage whites.

Ice - can I just ask if there are any other photo's on here of your plot? I'm sure the post my hubby found showed a whole series of covered hoops and raised beds - looked very futuristic. I only ask because we have 3 raised beds fairly close to each other but of diffent sizes.
Thanks M.

Drilling the hole and tying together is important.  The ones I didn't bother drilling and just tied got blown around in the wind.

Mumofstig.........
How do you do that  ??? thanks though - it's just the one we were looking for.

So....Ms Ice, have you found this structure better than your original design (hubby awaits with screwdriver in hand)?
Two hoops at diagonal to each other and screwed in middle to hold the two together or hoops going down the bed attached to wooden support which runs along middle of bed....think I have described them correctly.
We have bought some copper pipe to insert the blue water pipe over for more stability in case we need it. Ours is a very windy plot

I now prefer the hoops that crossover and are tied at the top just because they are so easy to move around.  They also look a bit more funky. :)

Thanks for all your help. Just waiting for the Wondermesh to arrive (hopefully today) and then will be straight onto it. My poor brassicas have outgrown the little polytunnel we used and need to be housed in something much bigger now so will be really pleased to get the hoops up and mesh on to let them breathe.........

Can I jut say a huge thanks to Ice and Mumofstig for helping me out. The covered domes are a huge success and look brilliant. My very hard to please Son is very jealous and is going to do the same on his veggie bed and my daughter who has just taken on a seriously neglected/overgrown allotment is very impressed. She has made up a frame with canes and plastic balls which is not working out very succesfully so is going to have a go at these as well.

We now have our blue piping and wondermesh under lock & key in case it goes walkabout  :D

Many thanks again xxxxxx

I'm on to it (photos that is) but might be a day or so before I can get them as the old back has been playing me up for over a week and I have eventually had to accept I need to get it looked at. Doctors this morning and a referral to hosp for physio urgently so no gardening or pretty much anthing for a while  :( boo hoo
