Hi the tops on my leeks are getting way tall got to be about 18 inches above ground should I trim them back?

maybe not such a good idea - you remove the part that photosynthesize, then the crop is smaller as energy is diverted to make new leaves

I think you can earth up leeks - a bit like potatoes - so you got a longer white bit - I'm going to try that this year.

Yes my leeks are already about eight inches down and because of the way they grow I don't think they will be earthed up until later in the year because I don't want sand down inside them. Don't think I will trim them at all juist leave them to grow on.
