Title: Raised bed covers
Post by: jmc1949 on January 31, 2012, 21:47
I inherited this raised bed (8ft x 4ft) with the hoops in place but with no cover. I would like to replace it. I have asked a couple of other plot holders who have no idea where it was purchased.

Could anyone give me any advice on where I might get one please.

Probably debris (scaffolders) netting.  We sell it in our lotty shop so you might find other lotty associations also sell it.  Go for the widest width you can find.

Those beds look just like mine.  Debris netting is good but it depends what you want to plant in the bed.  Some veg need pollinators, some just need protection from birds/butterflies.

Thank you for your replies.

I had thought of using it as a greenhouse to start things off, but I can start things off in greenhouse at home. So it would be used for brassicas or carrots and parsnips. So debris netting would be a good idea. Thanks

Debris netting is the way to go. Lasts - well I think forever cause I've not replaced any yet. Washed mine last year - hung on line - dry in 10 mins. Perfect!

Kleftiwallah by name.   .   .   .Go to a carpet wharehouse, they have carpets delivered inside large pieces of plastic sheeting.  It goes into the skip so batter your eyelids at the manager.      Cheers,     Tony.

That stuff is useless.

It's not UVI, goes brittle quickly and makes a mess of your plot.

Thanks for your comments. I've decided to go with debris netting because I can start things of at home in the greenhouse. I'm going to buy enough to do two of the raised beds which I'm using for brassicas and carrots/parsnips.  As Sunshine said 'it's cheap enough on ebay'.   Need to get some more hoops for the other bed.

Need to get some more hoops for the other bed.

Blue water pipe is the way to go. Not too expensive and you can make the height & length to suit:
