Duck House Size Help
« on: June 06, 2009, 19:52 »
Hi,
I have today just about finished the duck house for my soon to be hatched female welsh harlequins.
Now it has been finished I am a little concerned that the entrance is not wide or tall enough.
Never having ducks before and only ever seeing pictures of the welsh harlequin I must admit I did estimate the size and now its all been cladded it just looks a little small!

The door is 20 cm wide by 35cm tall
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Should be fine, that's about what my door is and they don't have a problem.

I got my Welsh Harlequin ducklings last week and they are beautiful. They are now 10 days old and settled in really well with their foster mum. How old are the ones you are getting? Sound like they are going to be very young from what you are saying. Take it they are going to be inside, under heat for a while before going out into the house.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Hi Kate,
Picking them up on the 26th June and they should be 7 days old, got a heat lamp and intend on putting them in the garage for the first 3 or so weeks and just letting them out for the odd stroll

Have posted a link to some picture of the duck house

Thanks for the feedback still got a bit to do but most the hard work is done now and I will have several weeks before they move with them being under the heat lamp etc.

Need to put some wire mesh on the fence and hope to put a fence down the side of the duck house which will be open during the day giving them the free run of the side alley which is about 10-12 sqr metres.

Would let them free range but we have a small son and mrs isnt keen of bird mess everywhere!!!!
