Title: Henhouse repair advice
Post by: Redgoat on April 12, 2023, 21:22
It’s time I repaired the roof on the nest box before getting some new hens. Any advice on choice of wood appreciated.

It has been a long time since I had a wooden coop, but I am sure when we did build one years ago we used waterproof plywood.

It is expensive but lasted years as a roof.  We also had onduline roofing sheet on top of it, rather than roofing felt, but you would need to check on a nest box that you could still open it properly before installing that.

The 'posh' name for the plywood Newshoot recommends is WBP and comes in a variety of thicknesses, starting at 4mm up to 25mm.  Roofing felt is expensive and is only sold by the roll, usually 5m and 10m lengths.
