New Year - new thread :)

First (of hopefully many for everyone) harvest of the year: sprouts, curly kale, swede, beetroot, leeks and celeriac. Some for tea, some for soup and some to give to friends.

2015 harvests so far

Leeks today - for leek and potato soup.

PSB. Finally. a few sprigs, but oh gosh- a quick count up shows 19, count 'em 19 PSB plants all about to come through... Eek. :nowink: :blush:
Early sowed ones are 4ft and really big and strong, delayed ones (kept in pots longer, same sowing experiment) about 3ft and some later sown ones about 2 foot but all coming in together.
Kales hanging on in there.
4 Romansecos still doing well, main heads cut but side shoots on-going.

For the first time we forced our rhubarb and harvested today. Very tasty.

Had my first harvest of 2015 sown crop. Pak Choi sown at home in Jan been over the allotment since early March under cloches, two decent size ones enough for two people. Plenty more to come!
Already had 3 crops of forced Rhubarb.

I still have some asparagus and arugula in the yard. Today I made a delicious dish with nettles and parsley. I should try to grow rhubarb next year. It's packed with antioxidants and you can use it for preparing some delicious desserts.

Unfortunately when I cut the outside leaves off it was all mush in the middle. I was very disappointed, I was planning on having it with mince & tatties. :(

Harvested my Pentland Javelin1st Earlies that were sown in buckets in the my G/House in March and then put out on the plot in their buckets when the temps got milder. From one seed spud i got a harvest enough for 2 generous portions.
This has given me my earliest harvest ever and will be doing the same next season.

Haven't been to the allotment since early last Thursday morning. Lots of weeds to be dealt with tomorrow but harvested: carrots, new turnips, new potatoes, spring onions and rhubarb, not only that, but boasted about it to my daughter!!

Loads of strawberries, 2nd large picking, lots frozen for later jam making etc. but really enjoyed very tasty large bowlful tonight. potatoes, very disappointing, tasted good but very poor yield from O's plot, possible blight in the ground I think. tasty snack on radish and a few turnips for supper with the potatoes. Rhubarb has been superb but must be coming to the end of it's harvesting for this year.

Yesterday picked loads of basil from the greenhouse within the toms and oregano for a pasta.
Friday picked a good bunch of asparagus, probably last lot and a good few pounds of Pentland javelin new potatoes that I gave to my Dad.

Casablanca Potatoes from the Greenhouse, well worth doing this as the first Earlies won't be ready until next Month, not even in flower yet although the second early Charlottes look as if they will flower first. First of the Strawberries again these were given a boost by being in the Greenhouse for a month then back out into a sheltered position. Most veg, other than radish and Rhubarb are still along way from ready.
Central Scotland isn't the warmest place to grow veg.

1st ripe raspberry :lol: & if the others are as awful the blackbirds can ave'em :mad:. Dug up all the onions from sets as they are going orf, some on the site say eelworm? I saw some grubs on some of the rotting flesh so all leaves etc brought home for the council compost.

Managed to pick the first handful of dwarf french beans. Just had them with my own new tatties for Sunday dinner. Very nice too.

Spuds in pots got harvested, 2 each of Rocket and Charlotte yielded 1.8kg of Rocket and 2.3kg of Charlottes. The Rocket tasted of nothing but have a nice texture; the Charlottes were delicious. Need to harvest a lettuce as they're getting massive - 14 inch across :ohmy:

Just got back from the plot having thought I would only be watering and picking a few raspberries, and I've come home with: courgettes, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries, 6 x huge cauliflowers (I swear they weren't any where near ready two days ago!), calabrese, potatoes and three different lettuces. I can't believe how the heat we've had has made everything put a growth spurt on.

This years garlic before it all turns to mush :( Such a shame - they're on the small side and needed another 3-4 weeks if it wasn't for the onion fly they'd have been great.
Grazed on the raspberries whilst I was up there :tongue2: would have been rude not to. ::)

These were on the plot when we took it over last year but had been cut down with a brush cutter when the council cleared the plot, so we did not get any fruit last year, really pleased we did not dig them out!

Over the last couple of days I have harvested Charlottes, Accent, and Kestrel spuds. Accent the winners on taste and texture. Courgettes, spring onions, a fantastic crop of electric red onions - first time ive been successful yay ! , Sungold tomatoes. Broad beans (Wikitiem) will be ready in afew days, lettuce and radish, and spinach has now all bolted so they will be thrown over the fence to the horses - although they dont really like the spinach, maybe too bitter ?,
Senshyu and Troy onions almost ready to harvest, Oh, and I pulled quite a lot of rhubarb which I attempted to turn into cordial. We now have about a gallon of rhubarb ginger sauce ! NOTE: DO NOT LIQUIDISE !

Onions (overwintered), shallots, spring onions, broad beans, mange tout peas (Carouby and Golden Sweet), peas (Sutton's purple podded), Wizard field beans, a Reine de Glace lettuce, potatoes (last of the Sharpe's Express and some of the Vivaldi that had succumbed to early blight), last of the garlic (Sulmona di Rossa, Solent Wight and unknown wrongly labelled type), coriander, rocket, raspberries, gooseberries, redcurrants, blackcurrants, jostaberries and strawberries.

I too picked the first two blueberries :) and they were eaten there and then ::). Also brought home Charlotte and Lady Christl potatoes, 4 courgettes, French beans, calabrese, lettuce, carrots and 3 onions.

Kennebec potatoes, yellow onions, bell peppers, jalapeņos, a poblano and a habanero, loads of pink Kidney beans, my first Gardener's Delight tomato, ever, and two large Cherokee Purple tomatoes, also a first for me, and a colander full of green and purple basil. Oh and one blackberry, which, while very dark in color, was still very tart!

A good bunch of French beans, 2 good handfuls of raspberries, a bunch of carrots and 11 courgettes!!! The courgette plants are going mad, there are only 3 of them but they are producing far more than we could ever eat. At least my friends like them (For the time being!!!)

Thanks, Jaydig! Wasn't sure whether to attempt freezing the strawbs as I thought they might go mushy, but I guess if I add them to warm/cooked desserts that won't matter!

Today - lots of broad beans and peas, the first handful of French beans (Cupidon - yummy), all my garlic (Germidour - not a great crop, smallish bulbs, but passable), courgettes, baby Sunbeam squash (bought as a pattypan from Sarah Raven but turns out to be long and stripey!), baby carrots, dill, coriander, mixed salad leaves, strawberries and raspberries. And pulled out the last of the baby turnips as they now taste disgusting and woody.

Rose de Roscoff onions. So pleased about this as I have grown them specifically for french onion soup !

A huge bag of French beans and 6 more courgettes. 2 delicious raspberries from one of my 4 surviving canes - yum.

2 big overflowing baskets of Wikitiem broad beans. Left a few on the plants for next years seed stock. More courgettes, 3 varietes of tomatoes, and lifted the remaining onions which were Stuttgarter giant and Hytech.

Too many French beans and Sharpe's Express potatoes (note to self - restraint next year! ::)) My 7 year old helper gave some of each to our lovely plot neighbours :). Also a big bunch of flowers and some of the drying shallots for roasting tomorrow :D

Loads of baby carrots, brilliant, enviromesh did a great job of keeping carrot fly off. Really pleased with them.

Cucumbers slowed right down, tomatoes starting to ripen, harvesting broad beans - loads of them, same with raspberries.
No runner beans yet, French beans struggling, mainly due to poor weather.

A quick plot visit has filled the fridge again.
Today we got courgettes, summercrookneck squashes, cucumbers, sweetcorn, minipop corn, climbing french beans, anchocha, raspberries, bush tomatoes and huaunzontle. At home I added greenhouse tomatoes and chillies to the haul :)
