my strawberries have decided to crop like mad this year, i'm wondering if they're cropping too much (never thought i'd say that).

one variety has been in 18 months and the other 24 months.

the problem that i think i may have is that all the energy seems to be going into the fruit and the foliage is suffering. the plants that have been in 2 years seem to be suffering more. they are being grown with mulch around them and the soil is lovely and moist and rich.

is this normal? will the foliage recover after it has finished cropping?

i'll try to put pictures up when i get time.

I'd just be glad they're doing well  :D They may look scruffy for a while fruiting but they usually recover well - it's what they do  :)

I agree with mum. Mine look to be producing plenty, but none are going red yet.

I would be dreaming if they only grow berries and no leaves! ::)

I have loads of green foliage and loads of strawberries.  I am getting enough daily for strawberries and cream for all of us, plus extra over for jam.  What else can I do with them?  I fertilised a month or two ago and they are under membrane in a sunny but sheltered area of the plot.  But as my husband just said,  as long as you have strawberries it doesn't matter, you don't eat the leaves!  Did you fertilise this year?
