Sprouting Potatoes
« on: May 24, 2012, 12:28 »
Hi,
I put my First and seconds in really big grow bags about three weeks ago. I checked them and there was nothing for a while. Then when I checked them a few days ago there were lots of leaves above soil level. I was not sure what to do so earthed them up. Not sure if I had done the wrong thing when I checked them again today the leaves are above soil level again so I have earthed them up again. I dont think I should have leaves so soon and probably did not earth up quick enough.

When should I leave folage to grow and when will I expect to get a crop? I dont have a clue?

Casper

Keep on earthing up until you have reached the top of the bags then let them grow. Once flowers have finished, wait a couple of weeks then have a look. You should have a decent crop. Don't forget to keep watered and fed.

I probably wouldnt as the new compost should suffice, id be more worried about keeping the compost  moist-especially when theyre flowering.
Political Correctness-a concept based on the idea that its possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.
