ok one carrot seed = one carrot tally they are root crops  :)  , you get about 200 seed in a pack not sure about the packs you buy , maybe 100 at least , . in softer soils they wil press them selves outa growing space so no worrys about thinning .

ok re carrot seeds they are a crop that if you sow all at once you end up with a whole load and stuck for what to do with them . sow a 15ft row and you will have enough for 8 weeks , going down the row and looking at the top of the carrot when they attain an inch across pull them up and use .push the soil back over any exposed ones . you can grow a main crop variety and freeze them . if you sow a few maybe 20 at a time for salads you can pick them when small ( baby carrots  )

Hi Tali, I usually plant more carrot seeds than I need in case they don't all germinate, which is quite likely when the ground is cold and wet like now, but in my mind you can never have enough carrots!!!!

Sow them as thinly as possible.  Some people mix them in with a little sand so they can see where the seeds have gone, but thin as possible and you won't have to thin as much.  I hae thinning things as its a waste.

I can't remember if you have a greenhouse yet?  I grew some late carrots for Christmas by planting them in a big plastic bin.  (actually a friend gave me a spare council recycling bin but shhhh, Mum's the word!!!

They went in late, so weren't very big, but they were lovely!!  you could try some in a big pot too, and cover them with some fleece or old net curtains, even without a greenhouse, they would keep warmer and may give you an earlier crop.  I've planted some in a pot too, according to the moon to see how they do.

Good luck with everything, and hope you have a wonderful year!

When I really stop to think about it.  I first learned that 1 seed equals 1 carrot by watching my mother in the garden.   Has anyone ever seen it written down anywhere?

So Tali, I'm full of admiration for you & I hope you have a bumper crop of veggies.   Incidentally, the seed packets do include quite a bit of information.
